WAUPACA – Wisconsin Bankers Association awarded Denise Abrahamson a Lifetime Service Award on May 21. She currently is the assistant operations officer and bookkeeping supervisor at Farmers State Bank of Waupaca. This marks 40 years of service to the bank.
Abrahamson has seen massive transformation in the world of banking, most of it technological. Early on she had to type in the information on the bottom of checks for the proof machine to read. The machine took up most of the room to sort the checks and get them organized to send out with the mailed customers’ statements. Now the proof machine is a smaller scanner that is about a foot long.
She’s also witnessed the introduction of ATM balancing, debit cards, online and mobile banking, email statements, online chat help, online forms, and electronic payroll files. Abrahamson has adapted along way and she and her department have more to monitor to help protect customers from all the various scams and fraud that came along with these new technologies.
Even in today’s technology-based world, Abrahamson still likes to interact with the customers, whether it is balancing a checkbook for a customer, answering questions over the phone, or talking in person to someone.
Abrahamson has been heavily involved in Waupaca youth and city bowling. She also volunteers at Project Backpack.
She graduated Fox Valley Technical Institute with a degree in Banking and Finance in May 1986. She joined Farmers State Bank of Waupaca in 1986, as a bookkeeper and was promoted to senior bookkeeper in 1995. Later she became the bookkeeping supervisor in 2006 and the bookkeeping officer and assistant cashier in 2014.
