Amherst man found not guilty of attempted homicide

STEVENS POINT—Following a week-long jury trial, Justin Wojtalewicz was found not guilty of attempted homicide in the March shooting of his brother.
On March 16, Wojtalewicz shot his brother, Ryan, in the leg on Mill Street in Amherst. Following the shooting, a press release described Ryan as in serious condition, but he survived the incident.
Wojtalewicz faced five charges that included 1st Degree Intentional Homicide, Aggravated Battery, Mayhem – Use of a Dangerous Weapon, Endangering Safety/Reckless Use of Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon.
After the five day trial, the jury returned the verdict that found Wojtalewicz guilty of Aggravated Battery, Mayhem – Use of a Dangerous Weapon, and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for March 6, 2026.
