Amherst’s Nerdahl runs wild over Coleman

Amherst- The Amherst Falcons ranked third in Division 5 with a 4-0 record, hosted the sixth-ranked Division 7 team, the Coleman Cougars (3-1). This was Amherst’s fourth straight game against a ranked opponent.

Amherst scored quickly when running back Ayden Nerdahl took a handoff, broke to the outside, and ran 90 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. The Falcons jumped out to a 6-0 lead.

The Falcons extended their lead as a four-yard touchdown plunge by Nerdahl put the score at 12-0, and Nerdahl scored the two-point conversion as they went to 14-0.

Nerdahl scored again from 10 yards out with three minutes to go in the second quarter as Amherst went up 22-0 as a two-point conversion on a quarterback keeper extended the lead.

A fumble recovery by Mason Nerdahl set up Amherst at the Coleman 31-yard line, and a few plays later quarterback Tyler Loken scored with a five-yard quarterback keeper to make the score 28-0. Loken would score on a two-point conversion to make the score 30-0.

Coleman would cough the ball up again on their next drive in the second quarter as Amherst recovered and capitalized on offense as Loken threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Cal Lusic to make the score 36-0.

Coleman scored in the third quarter on a 47-yard touchdown run to make the score 36-6.

On Amherst’s ensuing drive, Nerdahl scored on a 21-yard run to give the Falcons a 42-6 lead and punched in a two-point conversion to go up 44-6.

Another touchdown run by Coleman put the deficit at 44-12.

One more touchdown run by Nerdahl gave Amherst a 50-12 lead, and he ran in from one yard out on a direct snap.

Amherst went up 5-0 and went behind Ayden Nerdahl’s 306 rushing yards and five touchdowns.
