Posted

MANAWA — According to a criminal complaint filed Nov. 24, Gary W. Brunner, 48, of Manawa, has been charged with two counts of threaten to cause bodily harm to certain individuals involved with a court or legal system (Class H Felony) , one count of attempt misdemeanor battery , and one count of disorderly conduct (Class B Misdemeanor).
Just after midnight on Saturday, Nov. 22, there was an anonymous complaint about noise and two males fighting outside a bar in Manawa. Deputy Hailey Casari answered the call and arrived at Wolves’ Den Bar and Grill and observed two males, later identified as Brunner and the male 24-year-old victim, run out of the bar and start fighting in the street. Deputy Casari activated her emergency lights and ordered them to stop.
Brunner, who appeared extremely intoxicated , continued to pursue and shove the victim, and attempted to punch him, though he missed. After multiple commands, Deputy Casari drew her Taser and threatened to use it. Brunner turned his attention to the deputy, yelling, “He disrespected my old lady!” The bar owner intervened and restrained Brunner. Deputy Casari eventually detained Brunner in handcuffs.
Brunner’s girlfriend also approached the scene and was eventually taken into custody after she ignored multiple deputies’ instructions to stay away while Brunner was kicking the squad car.
The bar owner showed Deputy Brenden Muske video footage of the incident, which occurred both inside and outside the bar. The video showed Brunner, the girlfriend and the victim interacting at the bar. Deputy Muske observed the girlfriend strike the victim. After the parties separated, Brunner approached the seated victim, and the victim struck Brunner, causing him to fall. The victim then exited the bar, followed by the girlfriend, and the Victim pulled the girlfriend to the ground outside.
While being detained, an upset Brunner told Deputy Muske and the bar owner, “How about we take the cuffs, you take your badge off and we’ll see who loses?”
The threats continued when Brunner was taken to the Waupaca County Jail. While being changed into a jail uniform, a belligerent Brunner pointed at Sgt. Giefer and said, “I’ll find you out without your badge.”
As Brunner was escorted to his cell, he looked at Deputy Muske and said something to the effect of “I am going to rape your children and your wife.”
