Boys and Girls Club of Portage County has concluded its 2024 summer programming, marked by activities, educational opportunities, and new leadership.
With more than 1,000 youth engaged in a variety of experiences, the club continues to be a vital part of the community, offering a safe and positive environment for local youth.
This summer, the Boys & Girls Club y ran a diverse lineup of programs aimed at keeping youth active, engaged, and learning.
Swim Club saw 397 participants from across the county.
Field Day was one of the largest events of the season. It brought together nearly 250 youth,
Additionally, the club organized 38 field trips, ranging from local ice cream trips, to the Marshfield Zoo and to the Wisconsin Dells.
Boys and Girls Club offered the Summer Literacy Enrichment Program, which provided personalized reading support.
Other popular summer clubs included Fishing Club, Voyagers Club, and Tour de Parks, all designed to offer a well-rounded mix of learning, creativity and physical activity.
Career exploration was also a priority this summer, with specialized Career Camps allowing youth to delve into fields such as aviation, metal machining, and first responder training.
One highlight was the Aviation Career Camp, where participants learned the principles of flight and toured planes at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport.
The Club also hosted a series of Mini-Career Camps at the Izaak Walton League, focusing on outdoor skills like archery and wilderness safety.
Now the Boys and Girls Club is getting ready to kick off the school year, opening the doors to eight club sites that will serve youth from first through 12th grades. Each day after school, youth will receive a hot meal or snack, ensuring they have the energy needed to focus on their studies and activities.
The Club is committed to supporting academic success, with dedicated time for homework completion, as well as engaging STEAM activities that spark curiosity and creativity.
In addition to academic support, members will have the opportunity to participate in gym and recreational activities, promoting physical health and teamwork.
This year, the Club’s programming will be available across multiple communities, including Stevens Point, Plover, Rosholt, Junction City and Almond-Bancroft.
