Falcons shutdown ninth-ranked Colby

AMHERST-In week 3 of the 2026 season, the second-ranked Amherst Falcons hosted the second straight ranked opponent, the ninth-ranked team in Division 6, the Colby Hornets, on Sept. 4 in their Central Wisconsin Conference opener.

It did not take long for a weather delay to stop the action as lightning was seen in the area at 7:57 in the first quarter.

When play commenced, the Falcons got down the field in the second quarter and set up at the Colby three-yard line as quarterback Tyler Loken got into the end zone on a keeper to give Amherst a 7-0 lead.

Loken, on his ability to use his legs to get into the end zone, “I tried to run the best I could. My passing game wasn’t very hot tonight, but I try to take over when I can.

Ayden Nerdahl stepped up on defense to intercept a pass at the 50-yard line and returned it to the Colby four as Loken followed up on offense, scoring with his second quarterback keeper to make it a 14-0 game.

For the second possession in a row, Nerdahl would make a play on defense as he scooped and scored on a fumble recovery that he took 29 yards for a touchdown to put Amherst up 21-0 just before halftime.

In the third quarter, Nerdahl showed his ability at the running back position as he ran over a Colby defender on his way to the end zone on a 16-yard touchdown run to make the Falcons lead 28-0.

Nerdahl scored again, taking a carry six yards for a touchdown to make the score 35-0 early in the fourth quarter.

The Falcons preserved the 35-0 shutout and moved to 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play as they will face 3-0 Marathon in week four.
