PORTAGE COUNTY — Portage County Solid Waste has collaborated with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to offer residents a free option for deer carcass disposal. A dedicated dumpster is available at Portage County Solid Waste until Jan. 31, 2026. After this date, deer carcasses and remains will no longer be accepted. This service is available for both in-county and out-of-county residents.
Processing facilities and businesses must arrange for deer carcasses and remains to be sent directly to the Adams County or Marathon County landfill. The kiosk and dumpster reside on the east side of the main parking lot.
Due to CWD concerns, many Wisconsin landfills no longer accept deer carcasses, and therefore they cannot be mixed with trash. If needing to dispose of deer carcasses or remains outside of the specified timeframe, the Marathon County and Adams County Landfills will accept them year-round for a fee. It is illegal to dispose of waste on public lands, roadways or on private property without permission.
