High school roofing bid approved

Posted

NEW LONDON – The School District of New London will complete the final phase of a roof project at New London High School this summer.
At its Jan. 14 meeting, the New London Board of Education approved awarding the contract for the roof project to Northern Metal & Roofing Co., Inc., who submitted the lowest bid for the project. The bid submitted by Northern Metal & Roofing consisted of $1,201,545 for the base bid and $328,325 for the alternative bid. Referendum funding and the general fund budget will be used to fund the roof project.
According to the Topic Summary Sheet (TSS) in the board packet, the roof at New London High School was original in 1999. Planned updates to the roof were included in the approved 2018 referendum that provides the district $1.3 million annually. The first phase of replacing the roof began in 2024.
At the meeting, Joe Marquardt, SDNL business services director, said this would be the third straight year the district has conducted a roof project at New London High School.
“It’s been a planned process for us,” Marquardt said. “It’s part of our referendum funds to continue to update the high school.”

Marquardt said that Northern Metal & Roofing has worked on the roof project on all sections of the roof.
“They said that they know that they need to continue to demonstrate that they have the capacity to do the project within the timeline that we have,” Marquardt said. “There’s a possibility they may do some work over spring break if the weather allows it.”
The roof project is scheduled to be completed by the first day of school in the fall.

There were three other bids submitted for the project. From lowest to highest, the other bids included: Pioneer Roofing, LLC, $1,318,903 base bid and $122,435 alternative bid; Walsdorf Roofing, Inc., $1,363,705 base bid and $476,951 alternative bid; and Oshkosh Roofing & Sheet Metal, $1,480,000 base bid and $113,269 alternative bid.
