Missing child found safe

STEVENS POINT — On Oct. 2, the Stevens Point Police Department received a report of a missing 10-year-old child at 8:34 p.m. The child was described as an autistic boy who had been missing since 6 p.m. the same night.
After searching local parks, schools, and other areas a child may go, an alert was put out to residents at 11 p.m. that requested community members check around out-buildings and reviewing home camera systems for any sign of the missing juvenile.
The Portage County Communication Center received a call of an individual fitting the missing boy’s description was seen walking on Highway 54 near Grant Avenue. With the assistance of the Stevens Point Police Department’s Drone Team and Wisconsin Rapids Police Department’s Drone Team, the missing juvenile was located safely at 12:22 a.m. in the wood line near Highway 54 and 80th Street.
