WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Benjamin Feltz, 37, entered not guilty pleas in connection to the Feb. ambulance chase that took place in Wood County. Feltz is facing ten charges, with four felony charges including first degree recklessly endangering safety and threat to cause bodily harm. He faces six misdemeanor charges. He remains in custody on a $100,000 cash bond.
According to court records, Feltz’ most recent address was in Stevens Point, but on Feb. 17 he was in Wisconsin Rapids when he allegedly got into the driver’s seat of an ambulance and took off while a patient was still inside the vehicle.
Feltz, who was naked at the time, led officers on a nearly 20 mile chase through Wisconsin Rapids that ultimately ended in Pittsville. The ambulance came to a stop in a field, which led officers to use drones to observe Feltz prior to engaging. Shortly after, Feltz exited the ambulance and was taken into custody. The patient inside the ambulance was uninjured, but shaken up from the experience.
While Feltz’ blood alcohol showed 0.00, he told officers he drank a half of a bottle of chemical cleaner that afternoon in addition to smoking some possible marijuana.
A March 30 court hearing determined Feltz is competent to stand trial. On May 18, Feltz entered pleas of not guilty for all ten charges. He is expected in Wood County court on July 24 for his final pre-trial hearing.
