New 3D renderings of the veteran’s park

Posted

WAUPACA – A recent grant from the Department of Transportation was awarded to the city to build a veteran’s memorial park in downtown Waupaca.
The grant the city is receiving is part of the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) through the DOT, which will cover 80 percent of the cost to build the park; the remaining 20 percent will come from the city.
The park is set to start construction in 2028, starting with the tear down of the pedestrian bridge which was closed around 2011 when it was deemed unsafe after a bridge inspection.
The city’s engineering firm has put together preliminary three dimensional (3D) renderings of the park as the city works to put the project out to bid.
The renderings are not final, but aim to give the community as well as companies looking to bid on the project an idea of what they would like the park to be modeled after.

The new pedestrian bridge will start at the property between the Waupaca Thrift Store and Bank First, 111 Jefferson Street.
The property is currently owned by Bank First, which they intend to sign over to the city as part of the veteran’s memorial park project.
The bridge will then stretch across the river landing in Schwenn-Lions Park, also known as Hidden Park.
The bridge will be American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant with a ramp circling around into the park.
The renderings are still preliminary and details could change as the project progresses, said Laura Colbert, the Director of Parks and Recreation in Waupaca.
Colbert said there will be a board up at City Hall, 111 South Main Street, with all of the pictures of the 3D renderings on display as well as information on the project as a whole.
