New assistant police chief

STEVENS POINT — During a Nov. 6 Police and Fire Commission Meeting, Lieutenant Jeremy Mueller was promoted to Assistant Police Chief of Administration. He will take over the role from current Assistant Police Chief, Mike Rottier, who is set to retire by Jan. 2026.
On the promotion of Mueller, Police Chief Bob Kussow said, “We got input from everybody here in the department, including civilian staff, and he came out on top.”
Mueller grew up in Waukesha and graduated from Kettle Moraine High School in 2000. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management in 2005, then becoming a patrol officer with the Stevens Point Police Department in Jan. of 2007.
“Lieutenant Mueller is very well rounded and has taken a progressive path to learn almost every aspect of the Stevens Point Police Department in his eighteen plus year career, here.” Kussow said. Having held several roles at the department, Mueller has been a SWAT member, a less-lethal instructor, a firearms instructor, a field training officer, a field training supervisor, a master range instructor, a lead officer, a patrol sergeant, a patrol lieutenant, an operations lieutenant and currently serves as lieutenant of the Investigation Bureau.
Mueller’s promotion is set to begin on Dec. 1, 2025 and was unanimously approved.
Police Chief Bob Kussow is also set to retire by Jan. 2026, with his replacement being announced in the coming weeks.
