NEW LONDON — New London Police Officer Jenna Kriewaldt was formally recognized by the City Council and the New London Police and Fire Commission with the department’s Lifesaving Award during the July 21 council meeting.
Police Chief Josh Wilson read the award commendation, honoring Kriewaldt for her swift and critical response during a medical emergency at Pfeiffer Park earlier this summer.
On May 20 at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the park for a report of a pulseless, non-breathing individual during a baseball game. Upon arrival, Kriewaldt demonstrated exceptional composure, stepping in to assist bystanders who were performing CPR.
According to the Police and Fire Commission, Kriewaldt’s prompt actions played a vital role in sustaining the individual until advanced emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene.
Medical staff later informed the victim that her survival was directly due to the immediate, high-quality medical care she received prior to being transported. The individual has since made a full recovery.
In a letter signed by Police and Fire Commission President April Kopitzke, the commission praised Kriewaldt’s “calm demeanor, selfless service, and commitment to preserving human life,” noting that her actions reflect the highest standards of professionalism and compassion.
