Wins are adding up for the Stevens Point, Amherst and Iola-Scandinavia football teams.

All three teams picked up conference wins Sept. 27, as Stevens Point handed Wausau West a 37-16 defeat, Amherst stayed unbeaten with a 28-13 road win over Spencer/Columbus Catholic and Iola-Scandinavia blanked Rosholt 47-0.

Meanwhile, Manawa, Clintonville and Hortonville came up short against Crandon, Northland Pines and Kimberly, respectively.

Stevens Point 37,
Wausau West 16
The Panthers kept pace with unbeaten D.C. Everest in the Wisconsin Valley Conference standings with a win over the Warriors at Goerke Field.

Grant Chandonais threw a pair of 11-yard touchdown passes to Johnny Mathews and added a pair of short rushing scores.

He completed 20 of 26 passes for 182 yards and added 76 rushing yards, while Mathews led the Panthers with 105 yards on the ground.

Stevens Point’s other score came on Isaak Burgener’s 14-yard pass to Charlie Belson.

Amherst 28,
Spencer/Columbus Catholic 13
The Falcons improved to 4-0 in the Central Wisconsin Conference-Large and 6-0 overall with a win over the Rockets.

Neither team found the end zone in the first half, but two big plays early in the third quarter gave Amherst a lead the Falcons didn’t give up.

Tyler Loken returned the second half kickoff 94 yards for the game’s first touchdown and Sully Perkins capped the Falcons’ next drive with a 69-yard run.

Devlin Timmler’s 39-yard touchdown pass to Mac Konieczny cut Amherst’s lead to 14-7 later in the third quarter, but the Falcons added two more scores in the fourth quarter on Michael Glodowski’s 16-yard pass to Dylan Cook and a 12-yard run from Luke Hoffman.

Timmler and Konieczny connected on a 4-yard pass for the game’s final score.

Sam Stuczynski finished with 113 of Amherst’s 271 rushing yards, while Glodowski completed eight of 11 passes for 98 yards.

The Thunderbirds tuned up for their upcoming Central Wisconsin Conference-Small matchup with Edgar by shutting out the Hornets at Thunderbird Field.

Jensen Rice ran for two touchdowns and returned a punt for another score as the T-Birds improved to 3-1 in conference play.

All three of Rice’s touchdowns came in the first quarter on runs of 38 and 30 yards and a 52-yard punt return that gave the home team a 19-0 lead.

Kyrylo Kopytsia added a 68-yard run later in the opening quarter and three other players found the end zone before halftime. Rice had a 21-yard pass to Korz Loken and brothers Burkley and Billy Myers scored on runs of 16 and 41 yards, respectively.

The Thunderbirds will head to Edgar on Friday, Oct. 4, to face a Wildcats team currently tied with Abbotsford at the top of the CWC-Small standings with a 4-0 mark.

Crandon 48,
Manawa 13
Four unanswered touchdowns in the second half turned a close game into a convincing win for the Cardinals.

Manawa’s touchdowns came on Braison Zielke’s quarterback keepers of 5 and 54 yards.

Crandon scored twice in the first half and took a 16-13 lead into the locker room at halftime before outscoring the Wolves 32-0 the rest of the way.

Clintonville 14
A pair of teams looking for their first Northwoods Conference win met in Eagle River, with the home team winning.

Clintonville trailed 3-0 after one quarter, 10-0 at halftime and 17-0 after three quarters.

Cody Vojta opened the scoring for Northland Pines with a 35-yard field goal in the first quarter before Aiden Minx connected with Jacob Beer for a 20-yard pass that gave the Eagles a 10-0 halftime lead.

Beer added a 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Zach Johnson accounted for both Truckers’ touchdowns in the fourth quarter. His 21-yard pass to Sam Wegener cut the Eagles’ lead to 17-7, but Eli Kerner helped put the game out of reach with 39- and 10-yard touchdown runs.

Johnson wrapped up the scoring with a 16-yard pass to Teagan Laack.

Johnson completed 18 of 32 passes for 223 yards, including 13 to Wegener for 190.

The Truckers outgained the Eagles 304-303.

Kimberly 35,
Hortonville 7
Kimberly took a 35-0 halftime lead and improved to 5-0 on the season with a Fox Valley Association win over the Polar Bears.

Kegan Pleau had two rushing touchdowns and ran for 132 yards for the Papermakers, while Braedon Ellefson added a pair of touchdown passes as the Polar Bears fell to 1-3 in conference play.
