Prep Football Roundup Aug. 30

The North Eastern Conference’s dominance over Bay Conference opponents in crossover football games continued Aug. 30, as Freedom and Little Chute picked up convincing home wins over Waupaca and New London, respectively.

Freedom 45,
Waupaca 15

Freedom scored four touchdowns in the first half at a home game and added a field goal to take a 38-0 halftime lead.

A running clock in the second half limited the Comets’ possessions, but Waupaca managed to find the end zone twice on 2-yard runs from Xzaver Pittman and Austin Adamczak.

The Irish finished with almost 400 yards of offense, including Drew Kortz’s 258 passing yards and first-half touchdown passes of 5 yards to Nolan Phillips, 35 to Corey Mathison, 14 to Aaron Hambel and 5 to Jack Bonnet. Phillips added a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter and Hambel scored on a 28-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Adamczak led the Comets with 141 passing yards and 71 on the ground.

Little Chute 42,
New London 14

New London traveled to Little Chute where it trailed 14-8 at halftime before the Mustangs scored three unanswered touchdowns to pull away in the third quarter.

Tommy Fields and Howie Roloff had rushing touchdowns for the Bulldogs and accounted for 134 of the team’s 213 rushing yards.

Amherst 49,
Shiocton 20

Sully Perkins returned a pair of kickoffs for touchdowns and Michael Glodowski added two touchdown passes in the Falcons’ win over the Chiefs in Amherst.

Shiocton took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but the Falcons responded with five touchdowns to take a 36-7 halftime lead.

Glodowski tied the game in the first quarter with a 23-yard run before adding scoring passes of 57 yards to Cannen Hodges and 33 yards to Dylan Cook.

Sam Stuczynski added a 30-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Perkins returned a kickoff 91 yards after Shiocton scored its second touchdown.

Amherst added to its lead in the third quarter on Perkins’ 82-yard kickoff return and wrapped up the scoring in the fourth quarter on Glodowski’s 4-yard run.

Pulaski 21,
Hortonville 18

Hortonville led 18-14 with less than a minute remaining, but gave up the game-winning touchdown, Brock Weideman’s 2-yard run, with 24 seconds to go.

In theiir home game, the Polar Bears held the Red Raiders to negative rushing yards, but also missed all three of their extra-point attempts.

Pulaski opened the scoring with Ethan Schmidt’s 6-yard pass to Trevor Schuessler in the first quarter, but Hortonville took a 12-7 halftime lead on AJ Pheifer’s touchdown passes of 13 yards to Blake Eidahl and 4 yards to Levi Hebbe.

Pfeifer and Hebbe connected for a 24-yard touchdown pass to give the home team an 18-7 lead in the third quarter and Schmidt’s 3-yard pass to Joey Mijal made it a four-point game heading into the fourth quarter.

Pheifer completed 12 of 27 passes for 130 yards and also led the Polar Bears with 69 rushing yards.

SMC 30,
Manawa 0

St. Mary Catholic held Manawa scoreless in the Wolves’ home opener.

Maddox Dwyer completed 13 of 24 passes for 295 yards to lead the Zephyrs, including three touchdown passes to Daniel Harness.
