Riverside boat launch parking update

Posted

NEW LONDON – The parking ordinance at the Riverside boat launch will be revised to allow parking of vehicles without trailers.
That message was relayed by Ginger Sowle, director of the New London Parks & Recreation Department, in a July 1 memo to members of the New London Parks & Recreation Committee.
Parking at the Riverside boat launch came into question at the committee’s June 2 meeting, when it considered a request from Wolf River Area Patriots to use boat launch parking spaces for an event it hosted at the pavilion located at the boat launch. The group had rented the pavilion from the city.
Sowle stated in her memo that since that meeting, she reviewed the Boat Launch Fee Ordinance.
“I clarified that nothing in that specific ordinance changes parking in the Riverside Launch Lot. However, the Parking Ordinance currently states that this lot is restricted to trailer parking only. This rule has changed since we installed the kayak launch. We will revise and recognize this rule when we reach that section of the codification process. I spoke with (New London Police) Chief (Josh) Wilson to let him know we are changing this, so his officers are aware in case they encounter any issues at the site. Until the codification is updated, we can issue parking allowances in the northwest corner of the lot for any rentals at the facility.”
