Rosholt’s Alex Wierzba wins third state title

Posted

Coming off the heels of winning his third individual state championship during the 2026 WIAA state track and field meet on June 6, Rosholt’s Alex Wierzba won the Division 3 100-meter dash with a time of 10.85, and completed a career triple crown of sprinting championships, having won the 200 and 400-meter dash events at state in 2024.

Alex began competing in track and field at the age of 14 after his sister introduced him to the sport, and he feels that hitting new marks as he runs keeps him motivated: “The feeling of getting a new Personal Record, it gives me a sense of purpose and achievement in my life.”

Knowing that pressure is a privilege, Alex uses any anxiety before a race as fuel to compete: “My nerves, I look at it as a way my body is preparing to do something big.”

“Going down to Lacrosse every year has been a blessing, always lifelong memories made,” Alex says of the memories he has made on the Rosholt track team.

Alex learned quickly how to balance athletics and academics. “It’s definitely gotten easier as you figure it out as you go and learn.”

Coaches and teammates have been a big part of Alex’s growth during his time at Rosholt. “Mr. T, his passion for the sport has been very inspiring to me and helped me want to become a student of the sport. As for teammates, my best friend Caleb we do everything together, and I couldn’t imagine what it would have been like without him.”

Alex, who is committed to running track and field at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, has seen himself progress throughout his high school career. “I am definitely proud of how I have improved as an athlete, but even more as a person. I’ve grown a lot in perspective and maturity. Track has helped me a lot with that.”
