SPASH dominates Rapids in 111th meeting of rivalry

WISCONSIN RAPIDS- The SPASH Panthers faced the Wisconsin Rapids Red Raiders on Sept. 4 in the 111th meeting of the two rivals in the battle for the Old River Jug.

Wisconsin Rapids took the early lead in the first quarter with a touchdown pass by Owen Richardson to Colby Dix to give the Red Raiders a 6-0 advantage.

SPASH responded as quarterback Trent Breitbach threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Staege to take the lead 7-6.

The Red Raiders got down the field to regain the lead as Richardson plunged into the end zone from two yards out to give his team a 12-7 lead.

Breitbach found his top target Isaac Yang on SPASH’s ensuing drive to go up 14-12 with a 17-yard touchdown pass.

In the final four minutes of the fourth quarter, Breitbach took a quarterback draw and ran through the Wisconsin Rapids defense and found pay dirt from 20 yards out to give SPASH a 21-12 lead.

With 30 seconds left, Breitbach used his legs to strike again to score his second 20-yard touchdown run and give the Panthers a 28-12 lead going into halftime.

In the third quarter, Breitbach scored his third touchdown on a one-yard quarterback sneak to give SPASH a 35-12 lead.

SPASH fullback Logan Cisewski took a handoff 11 yards up the gut of the Red Raiders’ defense to put an exclamation point on the 42-12 blowout.
