Susan Pokorny, of Stevens Point, passed away on April 17, 2026, at Aspirus Stevens Point Hospital, at the age of 95. She will be fondly remembered as “Purple Grandma” or “The Purple Lady”.
Susan was born June 9, 1930, in Milwaukee, WI; daughter of the late Charles and Lucy (Zodrow) Muench. She grew up in the area and attended local schools. She went on to become a Registered Nurse, completing her internship at Misericordia Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. As she neared retirement, she became a nursing manager at the Milwaukee Jewish Home.
On August 18, 1951, Susan married Harry Pokorny. The two were blessed with 60 years together as husband and wife until Harry’s passing in 2011. Together, they welcomed six sons, Harry “Chuck”, James, Richard, Jerome, Joseph, and John.
Susan was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed the simple pleasures life had to offer. She loved to read and play games including card games, dice, and Rummikub. She also enjoyed bird watching, going on cruises, and watching the Green Bay Packers. Susan, who also enjoyed fishing, was proud to have taught her husband and sons how to fish as well.
Susan is survived by her sons, James (Kathy), Richard (Kim), Jerome (Donna), and John (Jean); her grandchildren, Shannon, Jacob, Joseph, Jackie, Jessica, Robert (Shannon), and Adam (Eder); her great-grandchildren, Aiden, Kaleb, William, Gianna, Rose, Robby, Lianna, Aubrey, and Ryan; and her Goddaughter and best friend, Luci.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lucy; her beloved husband, Harry; two sons, Chuck and Joseph; and her siblings, Carol, Tom, and Mary.
For those wishing to express their sympathies, the family kindly suggests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Susan’s name to the Lincoln Center or Operation Boot Strap in Stevens Point.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Dimensions, Aspirus Hospital, and Aspirus Hospice for all of the care over the years.
