On Friday, April 17, a huge thunderstorm was forecasted to rage through the area. The Waupaca School District cancelled all after-school practices so students could dodge the storm. It turned out to be a dud, just a brief rain shower and some thunder. Andy Carlin, the former Waupaca County Emergency Management Director, identified an unexplained phenomenon he called the “Waupaca Split,” where storm cells divide as they pass over the Waupaca area.
