Truckers soccer opens season

The Clintonville Truckers took on the Seymour Thunder in the opening soccer match of the season on Tuesday, Aug. 27.

The Truckers are coming off a 7-8-2 season in which they participated in the WIAA regional playoffs.

A back-and-forth match saw the Truckers be the early aggressors as they kept possession of the ball on the Thunder side of the field. The Truckers got several shots on goal that narrowly missed their mark.

The Truckers finally broke through at the 13:28 mark of the first half, as Jesus Hernandez scored the opening goal of the game to give his team the 1-0 lead.

Hernandez had another shot attempt careen just wide of the goal at the 33-minute mark. The Thunder tied up the game just before the end of the first half to make it 1-1.

At the 22:23 mark in the second half, Hernandez scored his second goal to give the Truckers the lead back and make the score 2-1.

Once again, the Thunder answered right back at the 28:58 mark in the second half to make the game a 2-2 tie.

Truckers and the Thunder picked up the pace of play in the final 10 minutes with both teams trying to gain an advantage. In the end, neither team could capitalize on scoring opportunities.

The final horn sounded on the match, as both teams opened their season with a 2-2 draw.
