Volunteer Waupaca launched

Posted

WAUPACA – You may have seen people out tending to gardens, cleaning up or marking trails throughout the city this past weekend as Volunteer Waupaca kicked off.
The city put together a database that connects residents who would like to volunteer their time around the city with places to do their volunteering.
The database was first introduced Feb. 17 at a city council meeting where Laura Colbert, Director of Parks and Recreation, said the project has been a collaborative one in the community and is modeled after similar databases from Appleton and Green Bay.
Those interested can fill out a form that tells the database what they would like to do for volunteer work, and the database will match them with a non-profit.
“The goal is to engage residents, raise awareness, and help get more volunteers connected and signed up through the web site,” Colbert said at the Feb. 17 meeting.

This past weekend was the kick off to the new endeavor with people volunteering time around the city; including volunteering at the Hutchison House, Waupaca Arts Hub, Rasmussen Park, Waupaca Public Library, Moses Hall at the King Veteran’s Home, Bethany, Rotary Riverview Park and at the high school.
Sponsors and partners for Volunteer Waupaca include the Rotary Club of Waupaca, Waupaca Area Community Foundation, The Arts Hub, Volunteer Fox Citieis, the Waupaca Community Chest, the City of Waupaca, the Waupaca Chamber of Commerce and the UW-Extension
