Warhawks cruise to homecoming win

Posted

A football league that includes Stratford, Amherst and Wittenberg-Birnamwood means that a Central Wisconsin Conference-Large championship is probably out of the question for Weyauwega-Fremont.

What the Warhawks can do to secure a spot in the WIAA playoffs, however, is take care of business against other CWC-Large teams.

That turned out to be the case Sept. 27, as the Warhawks outscored Marathon 28-0 in the first half and went on to post a 36-6 homecoming win over the Red Raiders.

The Warhawks had no problems finding the end zone early in the game, as Kameron Zielke scored on quarterback keepers of 17 and 25 yards and Dawson Lind added a 1-yard run in the first quarter.

Weyauwega-Fremont added to its lead in the second quarter on Zielke’s 3-yard touchdown pass to Aidon Lederhaus.

Lind accounted for the Warhawks’ eight points in the third quarter with a 48-yard run and tackling a Marathon runner in the end zone for a safety.

The Red Raiders avoided a shutout in the fourth quarter with Blake Kraft’s 2-yard run.

The Warhawks outgained the Red Raiders 267-102 on the ground and 62-50 through the air.

Lind led all rushers with 117 yards and Zielke added 96 on the ground.
