No séances, exorcisms or trespassing

CLINTONVILLE – The Clintonville Board of Education has approved Cryptids, Anomalies, and Paranormal Society (CAPS) as an official club affiliated with the Clintonville School District for high school students to join.
The approval came at the board’s Oct. 27 meeting.
According to the club proposal submitted to the board, the goal of the club “is to provide opportunities for all students. While Clintonville High School has many clubs, there is not currently one of those who are interested in paranormal and supernatural.”
The proposal also stated that the club will investigate haunted history, research cryptids, anomalies, and the paranormal.
“We will talk to paranormal investigators about their experiences. Our activities will be safe, structured and supervised,” it was stated in the club proposal.

It was also stated that the club would not have “seances, exorcisms, or conjure up possessed spirits.”
“We are not breaking into or trespassing into abandoned buildings to search for ghosts,” it was also stated in the proposal.
According to the club proposal, the idea for the club came from a group of students who approached high school science teacher Ben Smejkal about creating such a club. The club would be open to all interested high school students.
Smejkal would be the club supervisor, and monthly meetings would be held “featuring informational topics and guest speakers. With possibly field trips later in the year.”
The formation of the CAPS club would have no financial cost to the school district.
