Clintonville’s Addison Lundt chases title in her senior season

Posted

Addison Lundt from Clintonville hopes to make her senior year her best, aiming to qualify for state for the fourth time in a row and finish her high school swimming career with a state title.

Lundt has made the trip to Waukesha for the WIAA state swim meet each of her first three years, competing in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her best performance so far, during her junior season in 2024, was a third-place finish with a time of 1:06.67. Lundt also finished 10th in the 200-yard individual medley in 2024, competing for the first time in the event at state.

Addison started swimming at eight years old, after friends encouraged her in second grade, and she has stuck with the sport ever since. She says, “I have grown so much in swimming. The first thing I think about is my practices. Freshman year, I had no clue how to practice well. By senior year, I actually have built up endurance and know how to construct a hard practice that will make me better.”

Balancing time in the pool and the classroom has changed over time for Addison, but she does what is necessary to succeed in both. “It was much easier to balance academics freshman year than this year. I had zero homework freshman year. This year, I have to stay up much later to complete all of my homework.”

Addison on what sets her apart while in the pool, “Either my competitiveness or my positivity.”

Lundt has made many memories in her career that she will cherish throughout her life beyond high school. “I have two memories. One would be the first time I broke the 100 breaststroke record. I was a little freshman; however, the whole team cheered around me. The second is that I had this teammate who is currently a lifeguard. Almost every day, I do a sprint 100 breaststroke, and she screams so loud that everyone is looking up in the pool area.”

The dedication to swimming and studying Olympic champions that have come before her has also improved Addison’s performance, “ love either Lily King or Caeleb Dressel. Caeleb Dressel is very dedicated and balances his family life extremely well. Lily King just recently retired, but was an amazing breaststroker who was always having a good time.”

Addison also appreciates her coaches and teammates. She mentions that even though Cadence is not a current teammate, her energy at every practice stands out. Addison feels lucky to have worked with coaches from many places, including a private coach in Green Bay who helped her improve her technique and supported her through tough times.

The atmosphere and competitive nature of swimming will be what Addison takes with her after her time in the pool at Clintonville is over. “ My favorite part is either all of the different people from different teams I’ve met or racing and getting a best time. It’s hard to beat the thrill of fast racing and getting fast times.”
