Heading to the WIAA state baseball Division 3 playoffs after finishing 11-3 in the Central Wisconsin Conference-East, the Amherst Falcons will host Nekoosa on May 28 in the opening round of the postseason. A key factor in Amherst’s stellar season has been senior Logan Hintz. Hintz, who had 15 RBI and 21 stolen bases this season, has been a standout for Amherst, earning Second-Team All-Central Wisconsin Conference-East honors in his junior season.

Logan has also been exceptional on the football field, garnering all-conference honors as a defensive back for Amherst.

Getting his introduction to competitive sports at five when his mother signed him up for tee-ball, Logan, who is the second youngest of nine siblings, has seen the value it brings to his life, “ How rewarding it is. I enjoy everything about the sport and my teammates.” Logan says, “It makes me glad that I kept working hard even when I didn’t feel like it.”

Logan has made big plays on both the baseball and football fields that he attributes to his athleticism and speed, and has created some memorable moments that include “Game-winning interception and second interception of the game against Weyauwega-Fremont in football,” and a “three-hit game and a few game-saving plays against Bonduel last year at home.” And he lets his instincts dictate his play, “I try to think as little as possible and let the game come to me.”

Being a student athlete, Logan has been able to balance academics and athletics. “It got a lot easier through the years. I got better at time management.”

Logan appreciates all of his teammates and coaches who have contributed to his success in his high school career: “Michael Glodowski, Sully Perkins, Coach Held, and Coach Trudell for always believing in me and helping me not get inside my own head.”
