STEVENS POINT — The Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) Girls and Boys Soccer teams both earned the United Soccer Coaches High School Team Academic Award. This award recognizes exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2024-25 academic year.
“We’re proud to have kids who are doing things the right way, handling their academics and giving their best effort on a daily basis, and then doing the same things to be good citizens,” said Bill Loss, who is the head coach for the girls and boys soccer teams. “It’s about developing the whole student, not just the athlete.”
SPASH is one of only 35 schools from across the county that had both girls and boys teams recognized for academic achievement.
“This award shows how dedicated we are to everything we do,” said Ian Ekstrand, SPASH senior. “Whether it’s on the field or off the field, it shows that we come at everything with intensity and with hard work. I’m very proud.”
“Our coaches are very good leaders,” said Amelia Castleberg, SPASH senior. “They always encourage us and they always keep a positive mindset which helps the girls on the field keep a positive mindset. They encourage us to work hard and have a strong work ethic.”
To earn this award, both teams had an average grade point average of 3.25 or higher, boys with an average of 3.28 and girls with an average of 3.5.
