Stevens Point police locate burglary suspect

UPDATE: With assistance from the state Department of Criminal Investigations, Portage County sheriff’s deputies, Plover and UWSP police officers, Stevens Point police located Muns at a northside hotel in Stevens Point at approximately 12:15 pm today (Wednesday).

Muns was arrested without incident and taken tothe Portage County Jail on burglary
charges pending modifications from the District Attorney’s Office.

At 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, Stevens Point police were dispatched to a home on Songbird Lane , in response to a possible burglary.

The caller reported finding a broken window screen and a busted lock when they arrived home.

They also found a man inside the house who fled immediately, while the caller was on the phone with dispatch.

Officers identified the male suspect as James R. Muns, age 42, from the La Crosse area.

Muns is also known as “Jimmy James” and “Bubba.”

Officers continue to look for Muns but have not been able to locate him as of Wednesday morning.

Police retrieved the suspect’s vehicle at a nearby business.

Officers believe Muns may be on foot somewhere on the east side of Stevens Point and may be armed.

If anyone sees him, they should call the Portage County Sheriff’s Office at 715-346-1501, with the specific location.

Muns was last seen wearing gray shorts and a black tank top. He also has a shaved head and a tattoo on his left forearm.

This is an isolated incident, and police do not believe the public to be in any danger.
