The Waupaca Comets faced the North Fond du Lac/Oakfield Orioles on June 3 in the regional finals of the WIAA state playoffs.
Orioles took an early lead in the top of the first inning. Austin Supple hit a line drive single to drive in a run, and Drew Stettbacher followed with another RBI single to make it 2-0.
Supple drove in a runner at the top of the second inning to put Waupaca in a 3-0 hole early.
Reed Rogers got the Comets on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning with a line drive double to left field to make the deficit 3-1.
In the third inning, Waupaca cut into the lead once more with an RBI single by Ollie Waller that made the score 3-2.
An RBI groundout by Jay Card brought in the tying run as John Zeamer crossed home plate and knotted up the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Comets broke the tie as Rogers singled on a fly ball to right field that drove in Zeamer for the winning run as Waupaca got the 4-3 victory, as they took home the regional championship and advanced to sectionals.
